How Are You Celebrating School Years Eve?

Posted 6 months ago on La Jolla Mom

Well, it’s not quite school year’s eve for us but I know for a lot of you it’s Sunday. La Jolla Girl starts her very first day ever of preschool on September 15.

I know that a lot of you have “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year…..” floating through your heads. :) Give it a few years and I probably will too!

We have mixed feelings about preschool. La Jolla Dad says he’s going to cry because she’s growing up so quickly. I’m actually just dreading the first week. La Jolla Girl has always been a little bit clingy with separation anxiety so I’m fully expecting some major freak outs. And man, can she wail. I tried to go outside to pick up my gardening tools this evening and within a minute she was busting through our big front door to try to find me. Anyway, the preschool is having the moms upstairs for coffee on the first day. I like that idea “in case of emergency” downstairs in the classroom. I’m positive once she gets settled into a school routine, she’ll be fine.

We bought her backpack for school today. It took FOREVER because she has the attention span of……a 2 year old. It’s a Skip Hop Mouse Zoo Backpack and I think it’s cute but La Jolla Dad would probably prefer she have a Spiderman backpack. I keep reminding him that SHE PICKED IT OUT.

Cookie Magazine and the PTA are celebrating the start of the new school year and education by encouraging party-throwing and resolution making to kick off the school year right. Here’s some of my school year resolutions and they primarily involve ME.

1. Preschool is from 9am – noon, 2 days a week. I’m going to the gym at least one, hopefully both of those days. I have no excuse as the gym is about 2 blocks away from preschool!

2. We’re going to potty train! With patience and probably M&Ms.

3. We are going to have proper sit down family dinners at least 5 nights a week. We are in the habit of eating on different schedules which is not good on a number of levels. There’s only 3 of us!

4. Take more photos

5. Organize all photos – yikes, they are in piles.

6. Read more to La Jolla Girl

7. Channel my inner Martha Stewart….or try to.

8. I will try to “Lose It” in a positive, cool manner – see JuiceBoxJungle video in my side bar! Because, let’s face it, I WILL lose it at some point. Ok, often.
